The new museum building, organized by neighborhood identity areas, still under development, includes an exhibition area about the history of Maputo City, about life in the neighborhood and space for artistic activities. There is also a place of residence and a space for food is provided. It aims to create a space of communication with the community and with the city.
In the conception of the museum, there is a desire to find a way with the favela museums of Rio de Janeiro, in particular the Museu de Maré . The brothers Rui and Ivan Laranjeira are community leaders.
In the well-known Mafalala neighborhood, in the city of Maputo, is the first community museum of Mozambique emerged in pas few years. Powered by  IVERCA Association, a Local Association of Tourism, Nature and Culture.
The association has been promoting the Mafalala Festival, has organized urban circuits through the neighborhood and organizes artistic residencies.
In Mafalala the population is constituted by an appreciable cultural diversity, finding 28 different languages. It was a space of resistance to colonialism. Here was born the marabenta, the urban music of Maputo. José Craveirinha and Eusebio are two children of the neighborhood.
